During August 17 – 18, 2010, the Republic of Moldova Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) organized a seminar on refugee rights, with the participation of 20 representatives of the Republic of Moldova authorities.
Representatives of the Centre for State Information Resources „Registru” of the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communication, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Bureau of Migration and Asylum of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection, General Prosecution, Border Service, Parliamentary Human Rights Committee, Centre for Human Rights and representatives of civil society joined the seminar.
During the seminar, the participants discussed the situation of refugees in the world and the role of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, International and National Legal Framework for Refugee Protection and of the Bureau of Migration and Asylum over the administration of the asylum system in the Republic of Moldova, monitoring of protection on frontier and places of deprivation of freedom, providing legal assistance to asylum seekers and refugees, integration of refugees into society and statelessness in the Republic of Moldova.
The organisation of this seminar took place as part of the project financed by the European Union and by UNHCR “Regional Protection Support Project (RPSP)”, which holds activities in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine. The projects had been launched on April 1, 2009 and will be implemented during two years, with a budget of 400 000 EUR for the Republic of Moldova. The main goal of the project is to provide protection and assistance to asylum seekers and refugees in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine in the process of approaching complex migration flows. The project aims to ensure the access for all persons, who need international protection and the procedure of determining the refugee statute as being correct and efficient.
