The liberalization of the visa regime between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova is a priority for our country and the obligatory biometric passports issuance is to facilitate this procedure.

The stages of the new generation passports issuance and security were discussed within the meeting held by the First Deputy General Director of the SE “SIRC” Registru”, Mr. Pavel Buceatchi, with the representatives of the companies Crystal Systems, Gemalto and EADS, specialized in the software elaboration, which assure the digital interaction and the biometric data security.

Thus, the guests have been offered the opportunity to visualize the centralized process of production of identity documents, issued on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, including the biometric passports. Though the procedure of documents production in the Republic of Moldova is different from that used in the EU space, still the security and production parameters comply completely with the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) requirements.

The European Union is to grant financial support to our country via the project “Biometric passport for Moldova” that provides for an allocation of about 2 mln. Euro for the modernization of the infrastructure of production, issuance and processing of biometric passports.
