Necessary documents and general information

General information

Services related to the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova include the examination of applications for the Republic of Moldova citizenship acquisition by means of recognition, re-acquisition and naturalization. Issuance of the certificate on granting the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, certificate on belonging\non-belonging to the Republic of Moldova citizenship, certificate that ensures the acquisition of the Republic of Moldova citizenship and other certificates related to various citizenship issues.

Categories of applicants:
Persons, who have reached the age of 18 and have grounds to acquire the Republic of Moldova citizenship pursuant to the art.12, 17 and art.16 of the Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Moldova No.1024-XIV of June 2, 2000.
Renunciation of the Republic of Moldova citizenship shall be granted to persons who have reached the age of 18, upon the submission of the certificate on possession or acquisition of another state citizenship or proof of acquisition of another state citizenship.
The application on the renunciation of the Republic of Moldova citizenship shall be addressed to the President of the Republic of Moldova and shall be submitted at the diplomatic missions or consular institution of the Republic of Moldova only by those who reside abroad legally and permanently.

Examination of applications on acquisition and re-acquisition of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova by persons domiciled on the territory of the Republic of Moldova
 

List of necessary documents for the acquisition of the Republic of Moldova citizenship by naturalization

  1. Autobiography, where the date and basis for establishing the residence in the Republic of Moldova, data on civil status, place of domicile, working activity, data about close relatives: parents, husband (wife), children are stipulated;
  2. Certificate from domicile on family composition;
  3. Bill of payment of the state tax in the amount of 180 lei and bill of payment for the rendered services in the amount of 140 lei;
  4. Four photos (4,5x3,5cm);
  5. Certificate of employment or studies. Persons who do not work shall submit a certificate from the local public administration authority attesting their legal sources of living (income from a commercial or private activity, pension, scholarship, maintenance pension, unemployment compensation and children's allowance, material assistance from family members, financial savings and deposits);
  6. Certificate of passing the exam on knowledge of the state language and provisions of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, except the cases stipulated in the paragraph (2) article 18 of Law on citizenship of the Republic of Moldova no. 1024-XIV of June 2, 2000;
  7. Copy of the identity card, where appropriate, the passport of the foreign citizen and residence permit – for foreign citizens; identity card – for person whose status of stateless person or refugee was recognized; document issued by the competent authority for foreign citizens of the Republic of Moldova, which identifies the person and confirms his/her domicile on the territory of the Republic of Moldova – for the applicant of the Status of Stateless Person;
  8. Criminal record from the last country where he/she resided prior to the legal establishment/stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and from the country(ies) the applicant is the citizen of;
  9. Certificate on the period of legal and continuous stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova issued by the competent authorities or another supporting document in this respect, if this information is not contained in the State Register of Population;
  10. Copy of marriage certificate if the applicant requests the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova on the basis of the marriage registered with a citizen of the Republic of Moldova. The marriage certificate shall be submitted together with other necessary documents;
  11. In order to confirm the information presented in the application-questionnaire, other documents can be required as follows: copies of the identity documents, copies of the certificates of birth of minor children, adoption, marriage, divorce, death; court decisions, certified in the established way.

List of necessary documents for reacquisition of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova

  1. Autobiography, where the date and basis for establishing the residence in the Republic of Moldova, data on civil status, place of domicile, working activity, data on close relatives: parents, husband (wife), children, reason of losing the citizenship are specified;
  2. Certificate on family composition issued by the empowered authorities from the domicile area;
  3. Certificate regarding the citizenship renunciation or copy of the decision on withdrawal of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova;
  4. Copy of the identity document, where appropriate, passport of the foreign citizen and residence permit – for foreign citizens; identity card – for person whose status of stateless person or refugee was recognized; document issued by the competent authority for foreigners of the Republic of Moldova, which identifies the person and confirms his/her domicile on the territory of the Republic of Moldova – for the applicant of the Status of Stateless Person;
  5. Bill of payment of the state tax in the amount of 180 lei and bill of payment for the rendered services in the amount of 140 lei;
  6. Four photos (4,5x3,5cm);
  7. Criminal record from the last country where he/she resided prior to the legal stay/establishment on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and from the country(ies) the applicant is the citizen of.

List of additional documents for service provision:
         In order to confirm the information submitted in the application-questionnaire, other documents can be required as follows: copies of identity documents; copies of certificates of birth of minor children, adoption, marriage, divorce, death; court decisions, certified in the established way.
        In case, when only one parent is acquiring (re-acquiring) the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova together with a minor child, there shall be submitted the other parent’s consent certified by the notary.
         In case of acquiring (re-acquiring) the citizenship together with minor children aged between 14-18 years old, the children notary certified consent and criminal record should be submitted.

List of necessary documents for service provision

  1. Copy of the identity card, where appropriate, passport of the foreign citizen and residence permit – for foreign citizens, identity card – for person whose status of stateless person or refugee was recognized, Soviet-type passport (1974 model), if its authenticity may be established, document issued by the competent authority for foreigners of the Republic of Moldova, which identifies the person and confirms the domicile – for the applicant of the Status of Stateless Person;
  2. Criminal record from the country(ies) of which he/she is citizen, from the country where he/she resided legally and ordinarily prior to the establishment in the Republic of Moldova and from the Republic of Moldova;
  3. Bill of payment of the state tax in the amount of 180 lei and bill of payment for the rendered services in the amount of 100 lei;
  4. Two photos (4,5x3,5cm);
  5. Copies of the civil status documents: certificates of birth, birth of the minor children, marriage, divorce, change of name/surname;
  6. Copy of birth certificate of one of the parents or grandparents, in case the applicant was not born on the territory of Republic of Moldova but is a descendant of persons born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova;
  7. Copy of birth certificate of one of the parents or grandparents, and certificate from the place of domicile which confirms the applicant's or his parents' or grandparents residence on the territory of Bessarabia, Northern Bucovina, Hertza region and in MASSR until June 28, 1940, in case the applicant has a basis for acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova on this ground;
  8. Certificate issued by the empowered authority from the area of domicile, that attests the applicant's domicile on June 23, 1990 on the territory of the Republic of Moldova up to now, in case the applicant has a basis to acquire the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova on this ground;
  9. Certificate of the competent body attesting the applicant's, his parents or his grandparents act of deportation or refuge from the territory of the Republic of Moldova starting June 28, 1940, in case the applicant has a basis to acquire the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova on this ground.

List of additional documents for service provision:

In order to confirm the information presented in the application-questionnaire, other documents can be also required: copies of identity documents; copies of certificates of birth of minor children, adoption, marriage, divorce, death; court decisions, certified in the established way.

If only one parent is acquiring (re-acquiring) the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova together with a minor child, the notary certified consent of the other parent has to be presented.

In case of acquiring/re-acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova together with minors aged between 14-18 years old, their notary certified consent and criminal record should be presented.

Examination of the application on issuance of the certificate regarding the non-belonging to the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, certificate that guaranties the acquisition of the citizenship of the Republci of Moldova and certificate on other citizenship issues

List of necessary documents for service provision

  1. Identity card;
  2. Certificate attesting non-confirmation of the Republic of Moldova citizenship to the D(O)PRD from the area of domicile;
  3. Certificate of birth;
  4. Certificate of marriage or divorce
  5. In order to confirm the presented information other documents can be required, such as copies of identity documents, copies of certificates of birth of parents.

Examination of the application on granting, reacquisition and renunciation of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova submitted by the persons residing abroad (through MFAEI)

List of necessary documents for the acquisition of the citizenship by recognition through MFAEI:

  1. Copy of the national passport or travel document and document attesting the legal and ordinary domicile of the applicant, issued by the competent authority of the state on the territory of which he/she resides;
  2. Criminal record from the country of residence and from the country (countries) the applicant is the citizen of;
  3. Bill of payment of consular fee in the amount of 10 €;
  4. Three photos (4,5x3,5cm);
  5. Copy of birth certificate of one of the parents or grandparents, in case the applicant was not born on the territory of the Republic of Moldova but is a descendant of persons born on its territory;
  6. Copy of birth certificate of one of the parents or grandparents, certificate from the place of domicile which confirms the applicant's, his parents' or grandparents’ residence on the territory of Bessarabia, Northern Bucovina, Hertza region and of the MASSR until June 28, 1940, in case the applicant has a basis for acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova on this ground;
  7. Certificate of the competent body attesting the applicant's, his parents or his grandparents act of deportation or refuge from the territory of the Republic of Moldova starting June 28, 1940, in case the applicant has a basis  to acquire the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova on this ground.

In order to confirm the information presented in the application-questionnaire, other documents can be required as follows: copies of certificates of birth of minor children, adoption, marriage, divorce, death; court decisions, authenticated in the established manner.

If only one parent is acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova together with a minor child, the notary certified consent of the other parent has to be presented.

In case of recognition of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova of the minors aged between 14-18 years old, their notary certified consent and criminal record have to be presented.

This applications shall be submitted to the diplomatic representations or consular institution in consular circumscription of which the person resides, and if for the country where the applicant has the residence there are not accredited diplomatic representation or consular institutions, the application shall be submitted to any diplomatic representation or consular institution or to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration

List of necessary documents for the reacquisition of the Republic of Moldova citizenship through the MFAEI

  1. Autobiography, where the period of living in the Republic of Moldova and of establishment abroad, data on civil status, place of domicile, working activity, data on close relatives: parents, husband (wife), children, reason of citizenship loss shall be specified;
  2. Certificate from domicile on family composition;
  3. Certificate regarding the citizenship renunciation or copy of the decision on withdrawal of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova;
  4. Copy of the passport or travel document and document attesting the legal and ordinary domicile of the applicant, issued by the competent authority of the state on the territory of which he/she resides;
  5. Four photos (4,5 x 3,5 cm);
  6. Criminal record from the country of residence and from the country (countries) the applicant is the citizen of;
  7. Criminal record from the last country where he/she resided prior to the legal stay/establishment on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and from the country(ies) the applicant is the citizen of;
  8. Bill of payment of consular fee in the amount of 10 €.

List of additional documents for service provision:

In order to confirm the information presented in the application-questionnaire, other documents can be required as follows: copies of certificate of birth, copies of certificates of birth of minor children, adoption, marriage, divorce, death; court decisions authenticated in the established manner.

If only one parent is reacquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova together with a minor child, the notary certified consent of the other parent has to be presented.

In case of reacquiring the citizenship together with minors aged between 14-18 years old, their notary certified consent and criminal record have to be submitted.

This applications shall be submitted to the diplomatic representations or consular institution in consular circumscription of which the person resides, and if for the country where the applicant has the residence there are no accredited diplomatic representation or consular institutions, the application shall be submitted to any diplomatic representation or consular institution or to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

List of necessary documents for the renunciation of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova (through the MFAEI)

  1. Autobiography, where the period of living in the Republic of Moldova and establishment abroad, data on civil status, place of domicile, working activity, data on close relatives: parents, husband (wife) children shall be mentioned.
  2. Certificate from domicile on family composition;
  3. Certificate on the possession or acquisition of another state citizenship, or guarantee of acquisition of another citizenship;
  4. Four photos (4,5x3,5 cm);
  5. Bill of payment of consular fee in the amount of 300 €.

List of additional documents for service provision:

In order to confirm the information presented in the application-questionnaire, other documents can be required as follows: copies of certificate of birth, copies of certificates of birth of minor children, adoption, marriage, divorce, death; court decisions authenticated in the established manner.

If both parents are citizens of the Republic of Moldova and one of them renounces the citizenship together with a minor child, the notary certified consent of the other parent has to be presented.

In case of renunciation of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova together with minors aged between 14-18 years old, their notary certified consent has to be presented.

This application shall be submitted to the diplomatic representations or consular institution accredited for the country of residence. If for the applicant’s country of residence there are not accredited any diplomatic representation or consular institutions, the application on the renunciation of the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova shall be submitted to any diplomatic representation or consular institution.
